Ranking Crossing Scenario Complexity for eHMIs Testing: A Virtual Reality Study

چکیده
External human–machine interfaces (eHMIs) have the potential to benefit AV–pedestrian interactions. The majority of studies investigating eHMIs used relatively simple traffic environments, i.e., a single pedestrian crossing in front eHMI on one-lane straight road. While this approach has proved be efficient providing an initial understanding how pedestrians respond eHMIs, it over-simplifies interactions which will substantially more complex real-life circumstances. A process is illustrated small-scale study (N = 10) rank different scenarios by level complexity. Traffic were first developed for varying density, visual complexity road scene, geometry, weather and visibility conditions, presence distractions. These factors been previously shown increase difficulty riskiness task. then tested motion-based, virtual reality environment. Pedestrians’ perceived workload objective behaviour measured as indirect indicators scenario. Sense simulator sickness also recorded measure ecological validity results indicated that some taxing than others, such those with geometries where approached from multiple directions. Further, scores showed environments experienced found realistic. This paper concludes proposing “complex” environment test under challenging

Treatment and rehabilitation of the cognitive, psychological, and motor sequelae of central nervous system dysfunction often relies on assessment instruments to inform diagnosis and to track changes in clinical status. Typically, these assessments employ paper-and-pencil psychometrics, hands-on analog/computer tests, and rating of behavior within the context of real-world functional environment...
متن کاملUsability Testing of Virtual Reality Aided Design: Framework for Prototype Development and a Test Scenario
We have built a framework for using 3D modelling applications in an immersive virtual environment. In this paper we compare our immersive user interface made for an existing application to its original 2D desktop counterpart. The immersive 3D user interface was built on top of a generic distributed rendering framework on a cave–like virtual reality system. A test scenario was designed for compa...

INTRODUCTION The sense of touch plays a crucial role in our everyday lives. Touch allows us fine motor control, adds to our sense of self, and helps with our perception of the world around us [3]. Without it, accomplishing simple everyday tasks would become overwhelmingly difficult. Such is the life of approximately two million amputees in the United States today [2]. In order to improve the li...

متن کاملSupporting complexity in distributed virtual reality systems
Future applications of virtual reality will require increasingly complicated virtual worlds to yield the richness and functionality demanded by increasing numbers of users. This document introduces some qualitative measures of complexity which may be used to asses virtual reality systems. A number of current virtual reality systems are considered with regard to the facilities and complexity whi...
